I collect all the years photos into a file in my photos app. I go through the photos selecting what I want for the album, then I upload them to CVS or Snapfish to be printed. Once I get the prints, I sort them in chronological order, keeping events grouped together. Then I pick out some colors for the album, match paper to photos and begin to crop photos arranging them on 12 x 12 pages. I add embellishment or washi tape and often write directly on the page to add comments or more detail. I also include special cards I’ve received and misc. quotes and meme’s that I find meaningful or funny.
Each book becomes a ‘snapshot’ of the year. I’ve referenced the albums many times to remember what year I did something. For me it is much easier than scrolling through thousands of photos until I find the ones I want. There have been many times I've gone to the bookshelf, pulled out an album, and sat on the couch to flip through.
DISPLAY your favorite photos!
We can store them in boxes and in the digital cloud, but why not make some visible so you can enjoy them!
That could mean framing single pics and create a wall of photos, or create a framed collage of a certain person or event, you can have canvas prints made, mugs, puzzles and mouse pads. Digital picture frames are popular because they don’t take up too much space and can hold LOTS of pics. Many allow anyone to upload to the frame directly.
Several years ago, I took all of our family’s old Super 8mm films to a local camera shop and had them put the film onto editable DVD’s. Once I had them mostly in order from oldest to newest, I connected the clips and added music, creating DVD’s of growing up that I was able to share with my family. We were all able to watch them together over a holiday gathering, making it even more special that we could share the memories.
There are camera shops that provide this service. I was able to go to a local place, but there are also many places you can send your film to that will ship it all back to you with the new DVD’s, a thumb drive or they will put in the cloud for you to download. Look for places that scan photos and slides so you can have all your media transferred together.
