It helps to do a reset after the holidays. CLEARING means putting away or getting rid of all the things that are taking up space in your world (aka Clutter). This includes decorations that need to be stored from the holidays & gifts that need to be returned.
Clearing also includes other items in your house that no longer serve you, activities or memberships that you no longer feel are beneficial, thoughts that get in the way of you moving forward and even relationships that are no longer working. Clutter is so much more than the stuff!
I’ve met many people who struggle to make changes in their life. Some want new decor, others a special relationship or simply to feel better about their space and feel comfortable having guest visit.
But you can’t get what you want if there is no space in your life to let it in.
Clearing space makes room for what you want, and helps you define what’s really important.
One thing I am doing this year is clearing a space (time) on my calendar every week to work on creating an online organizing course. This means I will have to say no to certain activities and invitations so I can say yes to working on my course.
Is there something you have been meaning to clear out? Sometimes, writing out your thoughts can help get clarity. The first step might be asking, what is the most important thing right now?
Remembering what is most important can help you to make decisions about the way you live and what you do. Whenever there is a decision you need to make, go back to your answer to see if it aligns. Knowing this helps in CLEARING items in your house as well.
It is easy to get distracted by what is in front you, thinking that it needs your attention. If you are clear on what’s most important, you will only give attention to those particular things and will be less distracted by the other stuff.
Getting organized is so much more than moving stuff around. It’s a process that needs to be tweaked throughout life since our situations change. A process that worked for you 5 years ago may not work now and things you loved may no longer fit your lifestyle. Look around and take note of anything that you don’t enjoy anymore. Maybe a picture or decor item that is just taking up space but is no longer your style. Can you pick out 3 things from where you are sitting that you can get rid of?
Memberships and subscriptions are an easy place to start.
This is an area that can take over quickly. Subscriptions have gone far beyond just magazines, now they include TV & music streaming apps, phone apps for just about everything, memberships to clubs and associations, online memberships, food delivery memberships….it’s endless.
Take a look through your credit card bill and you might be surprised what you are paying each month in subscriptions. This month’s process of CLEARING is a great time re-evaluate what you are signed up for. Save yourself some money - and time - and only stay with what works for your lifestyle today. All of those $0.99 or $2.99 monthly fees add up quickly!
